We are excited to launch our search for a screenwriter for our 2024 film!
LCC is a skills development programme that in 2023 gave 8 young aspiring actors the opportunity to receive training in their field, as well as in the wider Film and TV industries as a whole with support from Screen Alliance Wales, which is one of Wales’ leading education and traineeship provider within the TV and Film sector here in Wales.
The scheme was devised and run by Andrew Creak on behalf of Third Time Lucky Productions, with funding and support from Caerphilly Arts Development, and Screen Alliance Wales.
Now, in 2024, it is back, and expanding the opportunities available for people based within the Caerphilly County and the South Wales Valleys.
For this year’s programme, we are looking for an aspirational screenwriter to curate the script which will be produced this summer, and then premier in a cinema this November.
We are looking for pitches for scripts that focus on the topic ‘We Are Caerphilly’, which can be interpreted however the writer sees fit.
Pitches should be a two-page PDF containing a one-page full Synopsis and one page of the script. Full screenplays will not be accepted.
The deadline to apply is February 25th.
Please ensure that your application meets all of the guidelines and criteria below before submitting.
- Writers must have a connection to Caerphilly County. ie Live there, work there, are from there, have family there etc.
- Writers must be over 16.
- Writers must submit a one page synopsis of the narrative they are pitching, alongside one page of the script. We will not be accepting full screenplays.
- If commissioned, the film will be 10-15 minutes in length and would need to feature 8 roles that could be played by actors aged 16-25, and one role that will be played by an older adult.
- We are asking writers to fit their pitch to the theme ‘We Are Caerphilly’, you can use this as inspiration in any way you wish.
- The film must all be film-able in the Caerphilly County.
- The genre and plot can be about anything you wish, be ambitious, but this will be produced on a micro-budget, so bear this in mind.
- The commissioned writer will be paid, the fee will work in line with our aim of being a ‘universal wage’ organisation where, where possible everyone, no matter their level, is paid an equal hourly rate. From director, down to a trainee.
- After the deadline, submissions will be read by our producer-director and shortlisted, the shortlisted pitches will be read by a panel, who will give their feedback, and from this feedback a final script will be chosen.
- Writers may submit multiple entries. Each entry requires a separate application submission.
- Entries should be submitted as a single PDF file containing the synopsis and script extract and should be named as the working film title of your pitch only.
- Scripts will be read anonymously, please ensure your name is not on your synopsis and script extract.
- By submitting your pitch, you temporarily hand over the copyright to the concept while the application process is ongoing. If your pitch is unsuccessful, the copyright will return to you.
- Please fill out the application form accurately.
